Milano Digital Week returns from October 10 to 14, 2024, in its seventh edition, offering over 200 events under the theme “The New Language of the City: Between Artificial Intelligence and Human Expressions” . This year, it dives deep into the integration of technology in everyday life, culture, and business across Milan. Here’s a snapshot of what’s on offer.

 

Core Themes: Technology’s Role in Society

 

The 2024 event explores six key tracks, highlighting technology’s impact on social and urban development:

  • Digital for Business: innovations shaping company growth and efficiency.
  • Digital Citizenship: the drive for accessible, inclusive digital services.
  • Smart City: sustainable urban planning using advanced technology.
  • Culture and Entertainment: the evolution of digital art and new media forms.
  • Work and Education: the future of jobs and learning in the digital era.

These themes are addressed through workshops, debates, and free-entry events, providing a platform for dialogue among businesses, institutions, and the public. Key discussions will cover mobility, cybersecurity, and the broader impacts of digitalization on Milan’s urban landscape.

 

Central Hub and Key Events

 

Palazzo Giureconsulti serves as the event’s central hub, a collaborative space where businesses and citizens gather. This venue will feature a mix of B2B and B2C events curated by TIG (The Innovation Group), in partnership with Milan’s Municipality and Milano&Partners.

On opening day, MEET Digital Culture Center, Italy’s first International Center for Digital Arts and Culture (supported by Fondazione Cariplo), will launch three major initiatives:

  • Artificial Dreams: a fusion of AI and art in a performance exhibition
  • Puccini Digitale: a digital discussion with Archivio Storico Ricordi, Bertelsmann, and Teatro alla Scala.
  • CITY DIGITAL SKIN ART: an interactive art display using LED screens at Milan’s Central Station.

Throughout the week, topics like digital accessibility (in collaboration with Agid) and cybersecurity threats related to AI will be tackled in roundtables and panels.

 

Thematic Knowledge Hubs

 

Across Milan Milano Digital Week 2024 also features specialized Knowledge Hubs scattered throughout Milan, each focusing on a particular digital innovation theme:

  • Spazio Lenovo & Le Village by Crédit Agricole: spaces for startups and investors, with support from Italian Tech Alliance and Growth Capital.
  • MEET Digital Culture Center: hosting the event’s opening projects and digital art showcases.
  • Healthcare Hub: managed by TIG, highlighting advancements in digital health technologies.
  • Libreria Egea (Bocconi University): a hub dedicated to digital literature and authors.
  • MADE Competence Center: an interactive space for Industry 4.0 demonstrations, focusing on AI applications.

Additionally, Università IULM, Cefriel, and other venues will hold events on AI’s role in cinema, professional training, and digital security.

This year, there is a special focus on AI’s relationship with sustainability, with discussions led by the French Chamber of Commerce and ISTAT on using public data for positive impact. The arts remain central, with events like a concert at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory exploring human-machine communication and the INAF Observatory offering a multimedia journey through astronomy.
